Applications of PK Series Cam Switches
Cam switches are used where reliable mechanical commutation without electronics is required.
Why mechanical commutation
The central through-type steel rotor (shaft) ensures rigid and precise synchronization of all contact groups, eliminating angular deviations.
This "physical logic" makes the device completely immune to electromagnetic interference (EMI), radiation exposure, and any forms of cyber threats, as the unit contains no firmware or microchips susceptible to failures.
In critical systems (e.g., nuclear power plants or responsible industrial facilities), mechanical commutation serves as a guaranteed fail-safe solution: the cam profile physically prevents the activation of incompatible modes, ensuring safety even in the event of automation failure.
The rated service life of the products is over 10 years.
High reliability is confirmed by switching and mechanical wear resistance:
- For models PK - 10A and PK - 16A, the service life is at least 100,000 cycles of switching on and off.
- For power models PK - 25A, the service life is at least 63,000 cycles at rated current.
Unlike conventional plastics, bakelite does not deform at high temperatures and retains its geometry even under extreme heating, which is critical for preventing contact jamming.
The devices are designed for operation in a wide climatic range, including UHL3 (moderate cold climate) and T3 (tropical climate) versions.
They maintain full operability under intensive vibration, temperature fluctuations, and harsh climatic environments typical of industrial automation, transport, and power installations.
Where PK Series Cam Switches are used
PK series cam switches are low-voltage equipment (LVE) for AC networks up to 500 V and DC up to 220 V. Thanks to 100% mechanical logic and a bakelite housing, they are the reliability standard in the following sectors. Data from the official manufacturer catalog.
Control of multi-speed asynchronous motors: speed selection, starting, and reversing. PK series switches provide rigid and precise control logic for milling, lathing machines, and press equipment.
Switching on and off incoming lines of electrical panels, cabinets, and control consoles. Mechanical position locking guarantees reliability in emergency shutdown systems where electronics may fail.
The special PK 16-11 version (schemes 3102, 6045) is designed for installation in high-voltage circuit breaker drives. As a low-voltage component, the switch controls the mechanisms of sectional disconnectors at substations.
Certified resistance to intensive vibration and shock per GOST 17516.1. Sealed versions (IP55) protect contacts from sea fog, moisture, and dust in ports, airports, and rail transport.
Reliable operation in control systems for elevators, grain dryers, and irrigation pumps. The bakelite (thermosetting plastic) housing is fire-safe, does not deform under arcing, and is resistant to dusty environments.
Multi-position switching of voltmeters and ammeters. The modular design (up to 16 packages) allows replacing a group of toggle switches with a single multi-position switch in a single housing.
Implementation of "make-before-break" switching (contact overlap) for safe bypassing of circuit elements during uninterruptible power supply maintenance.
Used as mode selectors for choosing power sources (main / backup). The physical cam profile prevents simultaneous activation of incompatible lines.
Complete immunity to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and protection against electromagnetic pulse effects. Mechanical service life of up to 100,000 cycles makes them the standard for communication systems and autonomous mobile installations.
Fail-safe "hardware logic" independent of software and cyber threats. The housing material retains its geometry when heated to +180 °C and is resistant to aggressive environments.
Control of powerful heaters, ventilation systems, and pump units in garages, parking lots, and swimming pools. A +25% strength margin ensures a service life of over 10 years without maintenance.
